Here's another extract from a draft of the pilot script of Rizzoli & Isles dated August 20, 2009 (you can find a link to the first extract
here). Not the bed scene, but that'll be next!
One thing in general that's different in this draft of the pilot is the extent to which Jane and Maura are initially "fighting" over Dean. I know in the aired pilot both of them expressed interest, but I feel like the aired version suggested that Dean was primarily interested in Jane, and that Maura was, by and large, yielding him to her because she wasn't that interested herself.
In this extract, which begins the second act, Agent Dean ("GQ-handsome and completely unaware of how hot he is" - uh, okay) arrives on the scene and introduces himself. After his greeting to Maura on p. 13, the script says, "Maura smiles unexpectedly, removes her latex glove to shake his hand. Their chemistry is not lost on Jane." Then on p. 14, after she's invited Dean to attend the autopsy ("Come if you like"), the script says "Dean smiles. Jane shoots Maura a look that could kill; thanks a lot. Maura shrugs innocently and exits." In the aired episode, my interpretation of all those looks between Jane and Maura was more like Maura first saying, "Wow, hot guy!" to Jane, Jane being a little non-plussed at Maura's obvious flirtation with Dean (a subtext interpretation would be like, "I've never seen you turn it on for anyone like that, well, except for me" ;-) ), and then Maura's parting look meaning, "Hey, he's hot - let's have a little fun with him."
Oh, and Jane's butchy territorial body language? Unscripted, at least in this draft.
Okay - a poll: if you would rather I next upload the bed scene from this script, let me know here! If you'd rather I polish up Chapter 3 of The Things We Don't Give Up and post that next, let me know
there :-).
