I have honestly never been insulted like that before. I was too stunned to respond.

And anything that would get you here so i could see you would be amazing! Even if it involves some homicide.

much punching will ensue. ...well, being as it's me, it would probably be more like "much wild flailing" but you know...

huh. well. yeah. i mean, he does sortof have a point in that we aren't aware of any truly matriarchal societies -- men tend to want to be in charge. however, there have been societies that have been well shared/divided and societies that didn't per se have a dominant sex but were matrilinial-were the liniage lines are determined by the woman -- pueblo, haudenosaunee, and mauri for instance.

i was talking with kara about this and she said that she thinks that matriarchal societies don't occur because women will tend to think that it's more important to be the person explaining to the children why we should have the pig roast ceremony than to be the person deciding what day the pig roast should be on ( ... )

Don't forget the Gaels. Ancient Irish society might seem patriarchal on the surface, but if you look at the legends/history, women were central to many events and laws. Although abduction was common, it was often consentual or ritual. A woman could also hold land in her own right, fight as an equal or better warrior to men, AND rule as legitimately as men. Women also had a strong impact as the trainers and spokespeople for children of power. :)

Exactly. There were many Native American societies that were the same way: they were technically Patriarchys, but women actually made a lot of the decisions and were treated as equals.

dark elves have a matriarchal society, and they are the most feared species ever to walk the realms!

But seriously, sorry for that kid. Come hang out sometime. We have popcorn and wheat-thins and Firefly DVDs.
