This is my first tutorial, so if I forget anything or you don't understand something, please let me know. Thanks!
[1] I decided to use two different photos of Rachel, which are located here and here. I then resized both images, and dragged each of them into a seperate 44x82 file. Next, I dragged both of the pictures into a new 100x100 file. I then flattened the image ( LAYER > FLATTEN IMAGE ).
[2] Next, I sharpened the image ( FILTER > SHARPEN > SHARPEN ) and increased the brightness to 20 and the contrast to 15 ( IMAGE > ADJUST > BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST ).
[3] I then duplicated the layer, desaturated ( SHIFT+CONTROL+U ) that layer, and set it to soft light.
[4] Next I made a new layer, and filled it with a bright orange gradient. I set it to soft light with 80% opacity.
[5] As a finishing touch, I added a small text brush at the bottom the image. I then flattened the image once again, and viola! You have a brand new icon!
