I don't think it's a complete writeoff yet... Parts of one platter seem to be gone; unfortunately these contain sectors vital to the old Windows install so the drive isn't bootable. If I'm correct, I should be able to salvage most of my data. For safety reasons I'm not gonna test that theory though before I have a replacement as putting stress on a damaged drive tends to aggravate things.

At least all my music is on an external LaCie disk :)
