This is just SPECTACULAR. So tangible, so vivid. The battle was so very very well done. So many clear images in my head, and that absolutely beautiful picture...what a story it inspired! WOW. I'm in awe.
I've not read a scene like that in fanfic for a long while. They're so rare. It was really well executed. Clearly written by someone who has a knowledge of the way to write well. You gave us the whole landscape as well as closer bits of setting that only added to the story. And an emotional heart to the piece that is so often missing from high action stuff.
Wow! This is amazing, my dear... truly amazing! And very, very original. Poor, darling Sirius, so strong in the face of pain and terror Poor everyone really! You capture the emotion and pain so well.
I love your use of historical references and the odd beauty of the battle. James and Lily side by side, Remus fighting with the same graceful precision he brings to everything, Peter, so strangely valiant... on, and Lily's protectiveness was simply lovely.
And this was wonderful: "His eyes fly back to Remus. Yes. Yes, that must be the truest thing he’s ever known. These four, illuminated by the red haze of Hogsmead burning, are the Light itself. Yes, his very essence of life and love."
And I very loved how they conforted each other in the end! Beautiful.
Thank ya, darling. Do you think that Peter is out of character? I mean... I have the hardest time figuring him out. He has to be slightly courageous to be put into the house he was, but he's an utter coward by the time he's 20. As for Lily, I think if she was anywhere but on the pages of fiction, she'd be hellfire on legs.
Thank you for your comments, they really mean the world.
Actually, I don't think that Peter was out of character at all. I imagine that, at least at Hogwarts, Peter felt safe and loved enough to actually BE courageous. You're right, he WAS a Gryffindor!
I would imagine that his difficulties came later when he began to feel abandoned by his friends. After all, he WAS rather the proverbial "odd man out" in their group. James and Lily and Sirius and Remus had each other and who did he have? Even if he had a girlfriend, she was not really a Marauder. He may have felt the need to seek solace elsewhere.
But, more importantly, at Hogwarts he had friends and identity (he was a a Marauder!) and support. It's a lot easier to be brave when you have that then when you feel alone and alienated and directionless as is so often the case after graduations!
Now that I've gotten out of the haze, I couldn't help but love what Sirius recites in his head. Qudditch plays, then the greek alphabet ( a little part of me goes: "Of course! He would learn these things as soon as he could read and write! He's a Black for god's sake!" And another part of me smiles and recites the rest of it.) Latin, potion recipes, and finally, the Gryffindor chant is what breaks it. I actually smiled at that part. For two seconds, and then I went back to crying. I love Lily's role in this, beautifully depicted. But the bathroom scene needs art. Seriously. If I could do art, it would be done. So beautiful. Bravo!

Just my thoughts there!
