I wondered about the run time. The psuedo-Gregorian chant part was pretty, but it went on a while, and I don't think it served the story as well as it could have. (If someone had said "That lullaby has been continuously sung for thousands of years!" and left it at that, it would have been fine.) And then suddenly, bam, out of time for exposition! Stuff is happening! Speeches! Action! Except! What?!
Only River icon I've got! ;)retsukoApril 8 2013, 16:56:41 UTC
RoA being a two-parter that wasn't would explain a lot. It seems as if there was more exposition that needed to occur but it got... left behind? Cut out? This is one case where I think that Moffat's decision to make everything a stand-alone may not serve every storyline too well

Still spoiling along... ;)lady_of_mistsApril 8 2013, 18:15:12 UTC
Not everything in Doctor Who should be a stand-alone, in my not-so-humble opinion. Even if some of them were cheesy, the cliffhangers at the end of the episode were occasionally kind of cool. Some stories just take more exposition and action to tell than others

Yes, Gaiman is writing a script this season and I believe it involves a certain classic foe! (I don't want to spoil it for you, despite my subject line, so I'll be all cryptic unless you tell me otherwise.)
River Song... well, I want to like her. She started out as such a force of nature, and what a fascinating story... and then. Well. We all know where that went.

Whoa, Doctor, you've just destroyed Galactus a sun... don't you think there's some astronomy problems you need to worry about now?
OMG, I thought the same thing! It felt like they had more episode than time for it
Going to be interesting to see how they wrap it all up. I hope it's successful. Agreed that something seems to be missing.
