2012: Pop Culture Year in Review

Dec 31, 2012 13:31

I've seen, read, and experienced a lot of wonderful pop culture this year, and I'm still boggling over just *how much* I've gotten to experience at all, given that my son turned 2 and spent much of his time unintentionally taking up mine. (99% of the time, that's great, but the other 1% is tough.) I've been lucky to get anything done at all! ( Read more... )

I absolutely loved Argo. I think it was largely ignored by my peer group, though, which is unfortunate.

I think it was mis-marketed in general! When we went and saw it on Thursday night, we were in an odd crowd of older folks, a few younger people like ourselves, and one tween-age kid whose parents had brought him to the theater. Even the trailers beforehand were a bizarre hodge podge of "you possibly might like somewhat violent movies in any permutation?"

I LOVED The Secret World of Arrietty and I also enjoyed The Hobbit and Wreck-It Ralph! :) Awesome films! :D Once Upon a Time has been recommended to me and is currently on my Netflix queue. :)

Here's a link to my own 2012 list if you're interested:

OUAT is surprisingly good, given how bad it could be! There are some great actors involved. I'll be eager to hear your thoughts on it. :)

I watched Wreck-it Ralph because of your recommendation and enjoyed it a lot. Cute and funny with some nice twists.

Have you seen Brave?

I'm so glad that you liked Wreck-It Ralph! I'm really looking forward to watching it again, when I have the chance to pause it and watch all the visual gags and jokes I missed. :)

I did see Brave and liked it a lot, but I felt like there were a few overall plot problems that made it more like an honorable mention than a Top Ten (or, in this case, Top Seven.) It was nice to see a Disney movie where the girl doesn't obligatorily end up with a prince!
