As of late, the Anita Blake series has been ticking me off. Let me know how Incubus Dreams turns out, I heard it's a large disappointment, and therefore I figure I should wait for paperback like all my other Anita books are. And the Merry Gentry books are okay, I mean, IT'S LAURELL MUST READ, but often I am trying to find a real, solid, genuine plot under the layers of sex, even after my friend made it deep, meaningful, and symbolic.
I could probably recommend a couple Blake-esque type novels. If I find them lying around my house of course. Sort've coming to mind right now is Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison, but I know there's more around my house somewhere.

I think that's why I like the Gentry books. They read like some sort of strange non-fiction etiquette books. The first one had great plot, and now the rest have been one big huge explanation of the fae culture/world.

Blake's are usually more plotty and while I like that too, I love the politics in the Gentry books. Plus, I don't want to slap Merry as hard as I want to slap Anita sometimes. XD

Sometimes I want to slap Anita, too, but my biggest gripe is usually wanting to hit Richard in the balls with a boulder. I still say the majority of the early Anita books are better than Gentry series, but the more recent ones are.. um.. starting to disappoint plotwise, whereas Gentry is still developing.

What Gentry really needs is something longer but akin to drunken!Jean-Claude ( the highlight of Bloody Bones ).
