my hard drive lives
now, to remember how to breathe
[motherboard overheated--suddenly my response to the disaster in which i placed my computer immediately in the refrigerator upon returning to discover its corpse makes sense--who says there is no psychic link between electronic devices & their owners? NOT I]

You can replace a motherboard for pretty cheap. And if it gives you problems after that, a friend went through similar and switched OS from Windows to Linux without a problem. Try it!

apparently the paperweight is still under warranty, so they're sending me a box to send the computer to them & giving me a free motherboard. i was actually going to switch it to linux & use it as my computer-guineapig when i get whatever "new" one i find that won't blow up in my face twice a year. dell = fail

me too!! i even tried using the same technique that tech support guy told me to
unfortunately motherboards are really dire, or something
at least i have my hard drive hooked up IV-bag style to my old laptop now
a lesser being would be embarrassed at having more emotional reactions to electronics than people, but i see THE FUTURE
