Okay... So on one hand, I cried like a baby because I got cable internet about a month before Napster got shut down, so I was similarly deprived of my opportunity to be an evil internet pirate. And who doesn't want to be a pirate? Especially if Johnny Depp is a pirate. (My logic is infallible.) Who doesn't like free music? Especially if, say, you only want a couple of songs, like me getting your Postal Service song. Should I have purchased the entire CD for that one song?
On the other hand, I do support purchasing CDs to support the musicians.
On the other hand, I do not support purchasing CDs to make some guy at a record company rich while the musician doesn't really get that much money.
It's a tough call. So, because I am fairly undecided on my stance on it, I will employ a distraction technique... LOOK OVER THERE! (You still have to send me the link to your deadjournal...)
So, I feel the same way, but there are better ways of convincing the recording industry that you're a concerned consumer who wants a better business model than stealing from them and giving them no indication that you will buy from them.
i think i'm the only person in existance that doesnt mind paying the friggin $1.06 for a song that i want. I get to buy individual songs so that i dont pay $14 for 2 songs. and if its a CD that i really want i can purchase the whole thing for a little over $10, which saves me time and money from going to FYE or cdnow.com. Plus there's the added bonus if it being, you know, LEGAL.
and on the subject of not wanting to make rich, greedy music execs richer while the mucisian gets a small fraction... by downloading for free and not paying, your poor, starving mucisian is getten even less money.
