It's common for handlers to work very closely with young animals in a zoo. Often they will even take some babies home every night, both to give them extra care and to help form a bond with them. Whenever you see footage of a zoo worker cuddling with a lion or putting a wolf on a leash to move him from one enclosure to another, you can bet that handler was very close to those animals when they were very young.

Charger helped personally raise many of the animals in her zoo, and had bonded strongly with a lot of them.
