Who: Evangeline and Tae
What: Fixing a car that doesn't want to start
When: Ages ago. When this was posted.

"Wait, so, what exactly is wrong with it again? It won't start, but is it making any noise or anything?" Tae stared blankly a the car's engine.

Maybe if he stared long enough it would fix itself.

"It makes that noise .." Evangeline trailed off, rubbing her nose and unknowingly leaving a smear of oil across her cheek before continuing, "you know. That 'errr, errr' one when it tries to start off but can't? I tried everything I knew, but it didn't work."

Then again, she hardly knew anything related to cars to begin with, hence the reason why she had been taking such good care of this one when she got it. It was supposed to be new - or so her parents had convinced her to believe.

".. Thanks for coming over."

"Oh yeah, no problem." Not that he was sure he'd be any help, but what the heck. She was cute.

He pointed to his cheek and smiled. "You've got a spot of oil."

But back to business. He tried to think of all the reasons her car might not start. Best to start with the basics. "Hmm. Did you check the oil, fuel, and battery?"

Turning a bright red, she quickly nodded and began to rub at the area where the oil was with the back of her hand, even as she spoke again. ".. Oil?" She echoed, the single word interlaced with more confusion and nervousness than she wanted it to. "I .. Checked the fuel, yes, and my dad said the battery looked fine .."

Evangeline wanted to kick herself, there was no doubt in her mind that she sounded stupid. She couldn't help it, cars just weren't her area of expertise ( and neither was anything else that required mechanical knowledge ).

"Well....there could be a leak." If it were the spark plugs this would be so much easier. Tae rested a hand behind his head and sighed. "Leaks suck." Ah, it was just as well. He grinned and clenched his fist, raising it into the air and shouting, "LET DO THIS!" He was pumped. Totally.

But wait. "You do think it could be the oil though, right?" He glanced at her. "Noticed any oil on the ground and stuff?"

She nodded at the possible explanation and then blinked at his reaction for a second or so, following his motion by raising her two arms and waving them around happily. ".. Yay for fixing leaks!"

Evangeline kept both arms in the air, even after he had asked her that, to which she tried to remember. "Uhm, I think I did. I doubt that was my mom's car, though," dropping both arms back to her sides, she sent a rather dark look over to the pricey car parked next to hers. "Pfft."

"Mind if I look around a bit?" Without bothering for a response, Tae dug at Evangeline's garage, shortly producing a couple of bottles of oil and other required tools. "I haven't done this sort of thing since high school," he mumbled. Tae wasn't exactly dressed for the occasion, either. Not the brightest plan. Glancing at his college clothes, he shrugged at got to work.

Approximately 45 minutes later, with very much ruined clothing and tired hands, Tae stepped back and wiped his forehead. He was sure that he looked like a complete mess.

"Try starting it now?"

Waving at him to signify her okay, even after he had gone, Evangeline took the time to give the engine another look. She had absolutely no idea how you could derive what was wrong with a car by just looking at this. It all looked foreign to her, just as foreign as her Calculus homework; she grimaced.

Though she had more than a handful of questions to ask him, she bit down on her lip and remained quiet. No need to be so inquisitive with someone who was doing you such a large favor. As the minutes went on by, Evangeline watched him work, peering over his shoulder and under his arm every now and then. Maybe she could learn something! Riiight.

"Ah!" She was poked out of her thoughts with that, so she jogged over to the driver's side and opened up the door, getting into the car and fiddling around with the key. Turning it once, she awaited the ever desired hum of a working engine and, sure enough, it did come up and she squeed.

He gave her a thumbs up and grinned. It was a miracle that he'd managed to fix the thing. He sighed with relief. Maybe it wouldn't go kaput on Evangeline anytime soon. He hoped it wouldn't, at least.

But now he was thirsty and his stomach was rumbling. Strenuous work certainly took its toll on his ramen-noodle ravaged college body. He called out, "Hey, Eva, got any water?"

Turning off the car and pocketing the key, Evangeline climbed out of the car and closed the door, half-skipping over to him. "Mhm," with a nod, Evangeline looked back before pointing at her house.

"Do you want to go inside ..?" She quickly looked down. "We could talk about how much I owe you."

"Ah, yes." Tae's face turned a light shade of pink. It wasn't his intention to impose. Not to mention that he hadn't really thought about the payment, either. Something made him feel uneasy about the thought of accepting money from this girl. Maybe he could figure out something else.

He smiled and followed her lead.

The sudden cold burst of air she received once pushing the door open was greatly welcomed. She didn't seem to notice how hot it was outside the house at times, more so when she had been out there for hours. Standing on her toes, Evangeline carefully peered around the living room and kitchen before she came to a conclusion.

"My parents are probably upstairs." She mused, tapping her chin gently with the tip of her index finger, then signaling him toward the kitchen. "Are you hungry?"

Weren't her parents worried about their daughter being alone with a boy? At that, he wasn't even sure that she had told them that he was here. Not that Tae was planning on doing anything like that, but uh. He looked quickly away in embarrassment before answering her question.

"Yeah, food sounds great right about now." His stomach was beginning to grumble and he patted his empty stomach.

Once she was by the refrigerator and had opened it, she set out to move items aside and rearrange them. There was a bit of .. Everything, but not enough to satisfy what she had in mind. She pulled out the pitcher of water when she found it, placing it on the counter behind her.

".. Does spaghetti sound okay?" That had been what they had eaten for lunch a few hours prior, so it only needed some heating up and it'd be set. Chances were no one else was going to eat some again with the exception of Josh and his midnight snack urges, so.

"I made the meatballs~" She peeked over the door and beamed, since this was something she was very, very proud of.

His mouth was salivating already at the thought of food. Hot, delicious spaghetti at that. Without spiting everywhere, he beamed and managed an enthusiastic response. "That sounds great!!"

Women and food. The two single greatest things out there. Sure, he had to work for this one. But heck, it was worth it. Maybe that was just his ravenous stomach talking.

He walked over to her with the intention of lending a helping hand. In reality, Tae was only good for standing around holding utensils while she did all the work and he made flirtatious comments. Nevertheless, he smiled and tried his best.
