Calendars

May 07, 2010 10:51

For as long as I can remember, I haven't liked using calendars as a way to keep track of what I'm doing from day to day. Pretty much everyone I know uses an old fashioned wall calendar, a planner, or some kind of online calendar or calendars. It's just never been something I've been comfortable with, because whenever I've tried it, I get obsessive- ( Read more... )

Every time I've tried to use a planner/calendar I've gotten bored very quickly. So I never really write things down - I guess I rely on e-mails/syllabi which I'll hold on to? But I don't actually write down anything, especially not hang out plans.

For example, I couldn't write next Wednesday at 7:30 meeting RESK at CO's where he will pay me the sum of $1.00. I just have to commit it to memory.

P.S.

Kim Walker as Heather Chandler - The lead Heather (also known as "Heather Number One"). She runs the school through cruelty and fear, despite being only a junior. She picked Veronica as her protege and in spite of her recognized "popularity", she is mean-spirited and not genuinely well-liked. She dies at the hands of Veronica and JD when they trick her into drinking a cup of drain cleaner. Her wardrobe and croquet ball are red, representing her power, her leadership of Westerberg and her sexual appeal.

I'm glad I have a kindred calendar spirit.

Yeah, I looked up Heathers and found out I was wrong about Heather Chandler. However, Elizabeth Berkley played in a movie called Platinum Blonde that very same year. So she was active at the time.

Over the years, a number of people mentioned that she was the one playing that role, so it was ingrained in my psyche that it was true. Much like how k_sui told me that Jason Lee was the son of Stan Lee. I believed it cuz there was no reason for me not to. Then one day it dawned on me to check.

I keep everything I have to do logged into calendar and task management software synced between my computer and my iphone. I find it greatly reduces my stress having an external system I can trust more than my memory.

How is keeping a mental calendar up to date any less obsessive or troublesome than a physical calendar?

These days, I keep everything in Google Calendar. If I update it on the web, it syncs to my phone, and vice versa. If I have someone's birthday in my Contacts, it automagically appears and reminds me in the calendar. If it's not in the calendar, there's little chance I'll remember it, and I assume it probably wasn't that important in the first place.

There's no anxiety when the physical calendar is unavailable.

That's fair. Sounds like you end up keeping the mental calendar no matter what, anyway.

I keep a planner and I have ever since about middle school. I find that if I write it down I the planner then it's logged in my mental calendar, but only about a week's worth of stuff. The planner helps me remember events and appointments beyond that week. Especially things like Christmas performances that are already scheduled.

I have a pretty good memory; always have. I usually do the mental calendar thing, unless it's a busy time of year.
