First off,
gigglingkat has done some amazing artwork for some of my mixes. Here are the covers for
The Trail of the Hellhound and
Love, Blood, & Voodoo.

The Shag Ass Mix.
Next, I had written a crack about this being as close to Christmas carols as you're likely to get from me, except I realized I had typed "Christmas carls." God help me, but the image of getting a bunch of big dudes named Carl for the holidays sort of sent me into semi-hysterics that I've yet to come back from. AWESOME.
You know. Just in case you were wondering.
So, like, because Alice Cooper is my all-time favorite trash rock boyfriend, y'all are getting a double album. That's right. Two solid hours' worth of his tunes...AND, YES, Y'ALL SHOULD BE TOTALLY AMAZED I COULD MAKE MYSELF STOP AT A MERE TWO HOURS, ALL RIGHT?
*ahem* That said? Here's the link to the
Dirty Dreams Mix. As always, I'd appreciate a quick note if you're grabbing the file just because I'm curious about who's trying out the tunes.
I've never been shy about the fact that he's been my steady trash rock boyfriend, as evinced
here and
here. (Does anyone still need those? If so, lemme know. I saved the .zip files for 'em.) Last month,
rike_tikki_tavi requested more Alice and, while it took me forever to get this together, I've at last come through for her. My only real excuse is to demand if y'all know how hard it is to pick just a few of my favorite songs by this dude.
Okay. I'm kicking this off with "Poison." I hear the opening riff and, with Pavlovian conditioning, I just wanna peel off my panties and fling them at a concert stage. *waves cigarette lighter in the air* I was almost sixteen when I heard this for the first time. "Poison" is the first Alice Cooper song I ever realized was an Alice Cooper song. I imprinted like a baby duck. A panty-flinging, lighter-waving, jail-baiting baby duck.
(Incidentally, this was also around the time I saw EVIL DEAD for the first time and suddenly got what the Big Deal was about boys thanks to Bruce Campbell. I think the long-term effects these events have had on my personal life speak for themselves.)
But back to Dean. *g* This is just one of those songs that I happily picture as being able to give Sam a little bit of a tic under his eye because he winds up with it stuck in his head every goddamned time Dean plays it. I also picture Dean making a point of slowing to cruise past hot chicks with the Impala's window down and his shades on, and Sam just sliding lower and lower in the seat until he's practically sitting on his neck and all wadded up in the footwell. \o/
Next up! "Blow Me a Kiss." Dude. Just listen to it. Alice Cooper knows how to rock the social commentary while artfully draping it in hot licks, primal rhythms, and sexxed-up lyrics. *devil horns hands* I'm guessing you'll just need to hear it to understand why I'd put it on a Dean-oriented mix.
"Give the Radio Back" is the epitome of driver picking the music and shotgun shutting his cakehole. Heh. Give the radio back to the maniac, indeed.
Now for the eponymous track, "Dirty Dreams." In terms of the SPN 'verse, if ever there was a song meant to be about a succubus, it's this tune. If I ever write a follow-up to "Muscle of Love," this song will likely work its way into the story somehow. *pets Sam*
"Woman of Mass Distraction" is a song I find endlessly entertaining, moreso now that we know about that waitress back in Tampa. Oh, Dean.
I can't resist tunes that work on multiple levels. For SPN? "Spirits Rebellious" does just that. You can take it pretty damned literally and you can also chair-dance along with the Winchesters in mind. Either way? Rock. On. Alice.
"Damned If You Do" is another one of those songs that cracks my shit up. I picture John cuffing a younger Dean in the back of the head because, seriously, this is exactly the kind of trouble I imagine Dean's been getting into for a long damned time and exactly the sort of rationalization reason Dean might offer.
Heeeeeee! "Feed My Frankenstein" is a MUST, an absolute MUST, for this mix. I giggle-snort when I listen to this. I can't help it. The lyrics are so funny and so stupid and so brilliant. I love boys. So much. I'm eventually going to write a story where Dean's trying to mack on some chick and this song comes on and he just does not get how it's failing to set the mood. Meanwhile, she's laughing so hard, she's crying her mascara off into a classic Alice Cooper look, which only makes her laugh harder.
Poor Dean. He'd be dangerous if he knew how hot he is when he's a total dork. *bliss*
Okay, that thing I have about songs working on multiple levels? Yeah. "House of Fire" should be kind of self-explanatory. (I'm actually kind of surprised no one has Gone There with this song for a SPN vid.)
"School's Out" is a trash rock classic. I would be ashamed if I didn't do my part to make sure that anyone even remotely interested in hard rock and metal has a copy of this. It's just. Man. It's "School's Out." WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?
"Sex, Death, and Money" is one of those songs that's such brilliant social commentary that I wanna wrestle Alice to the ground and pin him with an open-mouth kiss. Yeah, the title is right for this mix but, really, the lyrics strike me as right for some of why Dean's not interested in a traditional middle-America lifestyle. The hypocrisy just wouldn't do all that much for him.
Plus? This song is fuckin' nasty-hot. 'Nuff said.
Just in case y'all haven't noticed, I am chronically unable to separate out sex and darkness when it comes to music I find so damned AWESOME. "Devil's Food" definitely is one of those tunes. Plus? Vincent Price does a guest appearance in it. You know Dean would fanboy this song for that reason alone.
And because Vincent mentioned the black widow in that last song, I was unable to resist spinning up Alice's "The Black Widow" next. They appear in the same order on the album and, man, they just fit together so nicely.
I've noticed on my other SPN mixes that if I pick out enough dark and dangerous songs that I inevitably transition from death to sex. While writing this up, I've just clued in to the fact that I swing the other way, too. After kicking around for sexass tunes that work for Dean's POV, I start shifting toward the other end of the adrenaline spectrum with "Who Do You Think We Are?" It's definitely what I'd classify as a hunting song...just the other kind of hunting Dean does.
Ditto the next song, "Triggerman." Kicks ass? Check. Chews bubble gum? Check. Is all out of bubble gum? CHECK.
"Not That Kind of Love" was almost the title of this mix but I didn't want to tease the Wincesters with false hope. Consider this the first song of the second album. Also consider this the kind of song Dean would totally pound along to on the steering wheel. *g*
"Hey Stoopid" is another one of those must-have trash rock classics. It's such a fiercely, angrily, dangerously optimistic song. Fuck being beaten down. Fuck giving up. Stay furious and stay the fuck alive. *chair dances* I think it more than deserves a place here.
Okay. I'm an ass for including "Chop, Chop, Chop." I mean, it's such a good song. Hell, it's an AWESOME song. It just happens to be a serial killer song. But OMG it's such a fun creepy-dark song, like the way you could see Gordon winding up, you know? A different sort of monster for the guys to deal with. (And, yes, I am rationalizing. I just wanted to include this song.)
"Go to Hell" is another one of those self-explanatory songs, I think, as is the next (AWESOME) track, "Freedom." Hell, for that matter, so is the next song, "Bad Place Alone." That last one in particular is more about the vibe and intent rather than a more overt point-for-point fit. Also, they're wicked cool pissed off and predatory tunes.
As I write this, I am now laughing at how much I totally did break down and go for the creepier, more villainous tracks for the second half of this mix because I'm listening to "Love's a Loaded Gun." (Hi! Meet my inner stalker! You'll only die the once if you're lucky!) You know what I want more than anything? For this to be the song that Ash always shushes everyone during so he can listen to it with this totally focused but weirdly serene intensity. And all Sam and Dean can do is slide looks at each other when this happens until Ash flips his glorious mullet and comes back into the now after the song finishes. Heeeeee.
I don't know about y'all, but that track transitions nicely for me into the next tune, "Second Coming." This song? Is definitely right for the SPN 'verse and not just because the
lyrics make me all flaily for John. (Although I bet Dean thinks of his dad when he hears this, too, dammit.) And, shit, man, if I'm gonna bring up John...well, now you get "The Ballad of Dwight Fry."
I stuck "Crazy Little Child" in here because it's a throwback to the blues and when don't I look for an excuse to hit that in my mixes? *g* Fortunately for me, I can be all "Well, Dean is canonically into the blues so this is totally justified." Plus? Darkness and death. So it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that the next song is "Scarlet and Sheba." *facepalm* This is another demoniacally sexass song for me. ALL RIGHT SO I'M EASY AND PREDICTABLE AND I HAVE NO SHAME. Hmmph. I like to think Dean would approve of that as much as he would this song. :P
"Killer" is one of those songs that strikes me as about as emo as Dean actually gets with his music. Meanwhile, "Tag, You're It" is so cute and funny! You know, for a song about having to improvise how to fight off a killer, anyway. *bliss*
And now a song very much for Sam and Dean. If "Adaptable (Anything for You)" doesn't make you wanna get up and squee for those dorktastic brothers, you clearly aren't watching the same show I am. Heeee!
Under the category of at-fucking-last, I give you the bonus track: the extended alternate take of "Devils Food." I got no real reason for this except that it's hella cool, filthy-sexy, and just the right way to end this mix.
Hope y'all enjoy. Cheers!
