Anybody out there got a rec for a video converter or some wisdom on the subject to share? I don't mind paying hard earned money for the software if it works

For video conversion, I either use QuickTime Pro or upload my files to MediaConvert, because QT's AVI conversion is kind of crappy.
I've only ripped DVDs once or twice, using a program called Handbrake. The Mac version runs great; I assume the versions for other platforms will be good as well.
