Good idea, bad idea?

I'm thinking of offering up my signed copy of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book for auction at help_haiti. I actually purchased it pre-signed, since the line to see him was seven hours long, and I have another copy of it already. Good idea, bad idea? While I may not get another chance to have something signed by him, I didn't really get it done personally ( Read more... )

question, haiti

It sounds like a good idea to me. ^_^

You post your offer as a comment to the appropriate main-post, I do believe - and then post a link in whatever place might best serve to solicit bids.

Personally, I wouldn't sell a signed book if I liked the author a lot; you might not get another chance and, well, even if you bought it pre-signed, it's still A Book With A Story. (I'm very sentimental about those, myself, but of course you might not be.)

I'd feel closer to it if I had been able to wait the seven hours to get it signed myself. As it stands, I feel like I cheated. And while I like Neil Gaiman a lot, I'm not in love with him, as I'm still fairly new to him. Maybe the book would grow on me, yes, but right now the attachment's not there the way I thought it would be. I'm partial to getting things signed, but only if I was there to have a chat with the author as it was being signed. That's the part I always remember. Plus, I have another copy of the exact same book, I accidentally bought two.

I'm not actually in any communities for Neil Gaiman; I wonder where I could post to let people know I have this book out there?
