We don't know what their intentions are, but we're forced to undergo experiments. Not exactly sure what they're after with them. There's really no connection from one experiment to the next.

There should be, but not in a practical sense. Some people have been able to return home, but we haven't discover how they're returning home.

Only that it is inconsistent. People leave, but there are no noticeable connection with them. Some even return with or without memories of their previous visit.
