It's not even a terribly dark navy, as it shows pretty clearly in dark/high contrast shots like this one. If there is a real lesson to be learned here, it's not the color of Mark's scarf. It's that you really shouldn't be so insistent when you're so blatantly wrong.
(If you're still seeing black, fiddle with the brightness settings on your monitor. If that doesn't work, buy a new one. If that doesn't work...eye doctor?)
