Mimi knocked on the door to Maureen and Joanne’s apartment for their girls night out. Normally it was girls night in, but they made a point for the three of them to get together once a week. Maureen opened the door and looked at Mimi and Roger. “Come on in,” she said. “Roger," she grinned at him, "get a sex change?” she asked him.

“Brat,” Roger laughed as she hugged him hello. “Keep an eye on Mimi please,” he whispered to her, then he kissed his girl friend and left.

“Okay, what was that about?” Maureen asked.

“Oh you mean my very over protective boyfriend?” Mimi asked her.

“Yeah that, he’s never done that before, at least that I saw.”

“Once before actually.”

“Really, when?”

“When your protest turned to a riot. Everyone was wild and crazy and Roger had his arms wrapped around me protectively so I wouldn’t get hurt and we wouldn’t get separated,” Mimi explained.

Maureen smiled and then it dawned on her. “You walk here, he just drove you, what’s wrong?” she asked concerned.

“Nothing, I’m a woman,” Mimi sighed taking off her coat.

Joanne came in with a bowl of popcorn and some mashed up chocolate chunks. “Hey Mimi, you just get here?” Joanne asked.

Mimi nodded. “Roger drove her,” Maureen said quickly.

Mimi glared at her. “Can you keep your big mouth shut please,” she said.

“No because now I’m worried and you’re being cryptic!” Maureen said.

“Alright, enough please, what’s going on?” Joanne asked.

“Roger drove her,” Maureen said again.

“Thank you honey,” Joanne said kindly. “Now you,” she said turning to Mimi.

“Oh this is so not what I wanted,” Mimi sighed. “Okay, I got my period, severe cramps, and I’ve been nauseous all day long, so Roger is very worried about me, happy now?” Mimi sighed and she covered her face with her hands and sighed.

“That’s it?” Maureen asked kindly. “Oh, he’s so silly and incredibly sweet. Come on, this is why you have girl friends.” She took Mimi to the couch and put a pillow on the coffee table. “Lay back, feet up!” she instructed as she kissed Mimi’s forehead and took off. Mimi listened to the instructions, knowing this was a comfortable position.

Joanne came back with a glass of ice water for each of them and sat next to Mimi. “Should I be worried? I haven’t seen her run like that before.”

Joanne just laughed. “She likes taking care of her friends,” she said.

Maureen came back a few minutes later with a hot water bottle and a towel. She placed the bottle in the towel and folded it up to make a little pocket, then she placed it on Mimi’s abdomen and stood back to watch. “What are you staring at?” Mimi asked.

“I’m waiting for it, because in about thirty seconds, you’re going to do it,” she said confidently. When the heat seeped in to Mimi’s tortured muscles, she made a contented sound and leaned into Joanne.

“You are so lucky to have her,” Mimi smiled.

“Wasn’t what I was expecting but close enough,” Maureen laughed. Then she smiled at her friend and her lover. “Can I hit play now?”

“Go on baby,” Joanne smiled at her.

She hit play on the VCR and sat down on the other side of Mimi. As the movie came on Mimi snuggled a little closer into Joanne and craned her neck. She kissed her cheek and then pulled Maureen on top of her, because moving was not an option at the moment. Kissing Maureen’s cheek as well she smiled. “Thank God for my friends!” she stated and with that statement, the girls watched their movie.
