Mimi walked into the bar and her eyes immediately settled on a familiar figure. She walked up, gave her friend a hug and sat down. Maureen smiled, returned the hug and helped Mimi take off her coat. “What’ll it be girls?” the bartender asked them. “Rum and Coke,” Maureen said. “And I’d like a scotch please, straight up,” Mimi said. “Comin’ up!” he said and then he left.
Maureen glanced at her watch a moment and then turned to Maureen. “And you would be here because?” she asked. “I’m not actually sure,” Mimi smiled. “Needed to get out, started wandering around a bit, and here I am.” Maureen nodded, happy with than answer. “And you?” Mimi pressed. Maureen took a deep breath and let out a sigh. “Same as you, although I did leave the house pretty angry.” “Fight?” “What else,” Maureen stated. “All we ever do is fight it seems,” Maureen said thoughtfully as the bartender handed her and Mimi their drinks. “And?” Mimi prompted. “And I’m not sure how I feel about that,” Maureen said taking a rather large gulp of her drink.
Mimi nodded and sipped her drink and suddenly Maureen started speaking. “I must love her, otherwise, I would be sitting her with all these really beautiful people around and ignoring every last one of them,” she said. “You do love her,” Mimi smiled as she pulled Maureen’s face away from the women in the corner who were carefully making out, trying not to draw attention to themselves. “And I should go home and apologize.” “And I think that’s a very good idea!” Mimi smiled.
