In which I talk to myself

After I started rereading The Secret Garden, I rather quickly realized something. There is an image in my head that I have carried with me most of my adult life, and probably a bit of my childhood, too. It's kind of how I've always pictured myself in some way, shape or form. And it's an image that I think I must've based around The Secret ( Read more... )

So I know I read A Little Princess a bajillion times when I was little, I've still got the junior edition with spelling words underlined in it in my 6 year old hand, but you've suddenly brought it to my attention that I've never actually READ the Secret Garden!! I've seen the movie a ridiculous amount of times (and Colin always makes me think of Draco Malfoy every time I've seen it since I got into HP) but never actually read the book! Must remedy that *L*

So can I ask what the imagine you've carried around for so long is?

Well, it's changed quite a bit over the years. It always involves a "garden" surrounded by moss and lichen covered stone walls, though, but instead of being square, it's circular, and there's a big solid wood door into it with those fancy iron bars across it. The whole thing isn't that big, maybe 20 or 30 feet in diameter. Sometimes it's just a little stream and a few wild flowers, sometimes it was all full of blooming things. Currently it's this big beautiful twisted apple/orange tree (haven't decided which yet) tall enough to be seen over the walls but not by much, but with nice big bowl-shaped joint between trunk and branch about two thirds of the way up that I can sit in and see a pretty clear view of the sky. Kind of a weird way of picturing oneself, but there you have it. My very own secret garden.
