On the subject of engagement...

They just did a mass live marriage proposal on the Today Show. You know something? This whole idea of proposing on national television or in front of thousands of spectators really bugs me. What if she wants to say "no"? It's humiliating for her if she's too polite to to turn you down immediately in front of all those people, and it's ( Read more... )

Heheheh. Love the icon you chose for this post. And I absolutely agree with everything you said (ranted? ;?) re: public proposals and diamonds. (Such a boring stone! No color!)

And yeah, you've earned a respite.

I've never been much of a fan of diamonds either. For one, they're too expensive. Two, they're not really my style at all. And it's positively boring if everyone has the same damn thing. I want my engagement ring to be different, something that definitely reflects me and my own taste, you know?

My mom's engagement ring was an opal and I think it is absolutly beautiful. It has so much more character than diamonds and she *still* wears it more regularly than she does her wedding ring. For that matter, she never wears her wedding ring (neither of my parents do), but rarely does a day go by when I don't see the engagement ring on her finger.

So, a lump of featureless, ugly carbon coal that slowly endures time and pressure to become a sparkling, eternal diamond isn't a good story? Come on now.

Personally, I love the diamonds I have in my wedding ring. They're beautiful and they won't scratch or grow dull like a cubic zirconia or another stone. Since I wear it all the time and I'm clumsy, that's important. I'd thought about getting an emerald accent, but I found out that they're "soft" and will go dull.

Sorry to rant, but this is the second post I've seen on my flist complaining about diamonds.

Hey, bitch away... We are all entitled to our opinion. And I'm not saying dimonds are stupid, I'm just saying that I think they do more for you when attached to a saw head (because, seriously... Its scary what those dimond-bit drills and saws can cut though) than they do around your finger.
I have no problem with people who like diamonds, I just wish that they would lay off all the damned Kay commercials on TV and understand that diamonds are *not* always a girl's best friend. ;)
