After multiple promptings from multiple friends who don't even know each other, and being pretty much house-bound because of the twisted ankle, I finally decided to check out
Eastwick.
I just finished watching the first episode and... I'm not entirely sure what to think. It's definitely something I would watch otherwise, and hey, pretty much the only reason I *started* watching it is because Paul Gross is in it and he's pretty much guaranteed to be good at whatever character he plays... which is kind of the problem.
Because of the *fantastic* job he did on Due South as The World's Biggest Boyscout, and because that image is so ingrained in my head now thanks to my love of the series, my brain is having a reeeeally hard time wrapping around the idea of him as the Bad Guy, even though he's equally as good at it (and I mean *really* good at it; seriously, if Fraser ever had an Evil Twin from a Mirror Reality, it would be Darryl Van Horne *exactly*, minus the evil goatee). But every time I see Paul Gross, my brain goes "Fraser!", and seeing him play a dark, manipulative bastard just... kind of breaks my brain a little. Or at least scrambles it really really good, and I'm torn between "I could easily love this series" and "No. Just... No. Cannot compute."
I do plan to watch a few more episodes to see if I can get my brain out of that "It's Fraser!" rut (at least if I can *find* any more episodes online), but I have no idea if I'll be able to keep watching after that.
At least I can take comfort in the fact that the same thing happened with Michael Weatherly when he made the switch from Dark Angel to NCIS...though that switch wasn't quite this extreme. I mean, they were both still good guys and everything, Tony is just a louder and more cocky than Logan.
That said, I may have drooled a little bit toward the end when they were out in the rain we got Very Wet Darryl. If I were to let shallowness rule me, I might totally keep watching just for more of The Pretty.
