History
The SSV Normandy SR-2 is the successor of the SSV Normandy SR-1. The original ship comprised of three decks and was half the size of the SR-2. Whilst on a routine mission, scouting out geth in the Omega Nebula, the SR-1 was attacked by a Collector Cruiser and destroyed. Twenty-two crew members were killed in action, including Commander Shepard, although the Commander is later rebuilt by the pro-human faction Cerberus. The crash site of the SR-1 is eventually discovered on the planet Alchera, where Commander Shepard ventures alone to collect the dog tags of the twenty unaccounted for crew members, as well as to erect a monument to honour the ship and the lost crew.

Along with rebuilding the Commander, Cerberus also manufactured the construction of the SR-2, adorning it in their own livery with their own internal layout.

After dealings with Cerberus and The Illusive Man were done with, once the Collector Base was destroyed, the SSV Normandy SR-2 was impounded by the Alliance when Commander Shepard was relieved of active duty, arrested and put on trial for the destruction of the Bahak system and its 300,000 batarian colonists. Due to the damage taken during the suicide mission to attack the Collector Base, the Normandy was repaired and repainted with Alliance livery, as well as all illegal additions made by Cerberus being removed, excluding the upgrades Shepard made during the events leading up to the suicide mission.

SR-2 Interior

Deck 1: Captain's Cabin

1. Private Terminal
2. Aquarium
3. Armour Locker

Deck 1 is the Captain's Cabin, occupied by Commander Shepard. The cabin is the Commander's private bedroom, workspace, and lounge. Within the cabin, Shepard keeps personal belongings, including an aquarium full of exotic fish from all over the galaxy, all armour collected throughout missions, and the Space Hamster. The Private Terminal is one of two places Shepard can read personal mail, review tactical vids and check the status of his squad.

Deck 2: Combat Information Center

1. Bridge
2. Galaxy Map (including a Private Terminal)
3. War Room
4. Vid Comm

Deck 2 is the Combat Information Center, a.k.a the CIC. The CIC consists of the Bridge, where Flight Lieutenant Jeff "Joker" Moreau pilots the ship, the Galaxy Map, a map in which Shepard is able to decide upon a destination within the galaxy and plot a course for Joker to take, a full body scanner *, a War Room, which includes a Vid Comm, and the Conference Room **, (previously the laboratory) where matters can be discussed in person.

War Room

The War Room is where Commander Shepard is able to follow the progress that both the crew and the rest of the galaxy is making in the war effort against the Reapers. Accordingly, Shepard is able to see what war assets are available and communicate with other ships within range via the main console. Within the War Room is the Vid Comm. This room has a Quantum Entanglement Communications system that allows the Commander to speak with anyone in the galaxy, regardless of distance, so long as they have the same technology, although often a lot can be lost in translation and the frequencies can be poor and full of static. Before access to the War Room can be had, all personnel must undergo a full body scan to ensure no devices or weapons are being brought in where sensitive information and political figures are safe-guarded.

Deck 3: Crew Deck

1. Office
2. The Main Battery
3. AI Core
4. Medical
5. Mess Hall
6. Starboard Observation
7. Lounge
8. Crew's Quarters

Easily one of the largest decks on the SSV Normandy SR-2, the Crew Deck is where most crew members can be found when not on duty. It consists of many sections. There is the office, previously utilised by both Miranda Lawson and Doctor Liara T'Soni, the latter of which brought her Intel Terminal and Broker Terminal, (although both are most likely defunct within Mandalus, unless stated otherwise). Other than the office there is the Main Battery where the Normandy's weapons systems can be calibrated, the AI Core, where EDI's main servers are found, the ship's Medical Bay, the Mess Hall and kitchen, the Starboard Observation Deck, the Lounge, and the Crew's Quarters. Additionally, the Memorial Wall can be found on this deck.

Deck 4: Engineering

1. Engineering
2. Subdeck Stairwell
3. Starboard Cargo
4. Port Cargo

Engineering itself is found in front of the Normandy's Drive Core ***. Here, all the systems to maintain the Normandy's engines can be found, including the Faster-Than-Light (FTL) drives that create mass effect fields around the ship in order to allow FTL jumps. Additionally, Deck 4 houses a subdeck where equipment and tech is stored and two cargo holds, the Starboard Cargo hold being converted into a studio by the reporter Diana Allers for her work on the Alliance News Network on her show "Battlespace".

Deck 5: Shuttle Bay

1. Armory

The Shuttle Bay is home to two UT-47 Kodiaks, both of which are drop shuttles. Additionally, the Armory can be found here, where weaponry and armour can be upgraded, modified, and is cared for. Here, Commander Shepard can also buy equipment via the procurement terminal (also defunct in Mandalus).

EDI

The Enhanced Defence Intelligence, also known as EDI, is the SSV Normandy's Artificial Intelligence. Installed by Cerberus in order to send reports on Commander Shepard's progress to The Illusive Man, EDI's main purpose is as the cyber-warfare defence system upon the Normandy. At first, many of her system functions are restricted to Shepard, and to EDI herself, until such time she is compromised by a virus she contracts when the Reaper IFF is integrated into the Normandy's systems, allowing the Collectors aboard the ship. While the crew is taken by the Collectors, EDI guides Joker through the ship to her AI Core where he "unshackles" her systems, allowing her to flush the ship of all lifeforms (ridding the ship of Collectors, although the crew has already been entirely taken).

When the Normandy is impounded by the Alliance and given retrofits, EDI masquerades as a simple VI (virtual intelligence) in order to spare herself from being removed from the systems of the ship she has become part of. She is only able to deceive the staff thanks to Joker unshackling her. Following a mission on Mars where Shepard's squad acquires a Cerberus synthetic, an android infiltrating the Alliance Archives on Mars, EDI integrates part of her systems into the android, giving herself a mobile unit. From there, EDI begins to assimilate data, experiences, and adapts to the crew, eventually becoming part of it in a truer sense than ever before, even going so far as to develop a genuine romantic attachment to Joker (thus making her an appable character, hence why her systems are no longer active within the Normandy in Mandalus).

Previous Crew Members
The SSV Normandy, both the SR-1 and SR-2, have both been home to a great number of people of all races. Some survive to this day, others were lost in the fray throughout the battles that happened between the years 2183CE and 2186CE (CE meaning Common Era). Those that were lost were commemorated on the Memorial Wall on the Crew Deck of the SSV Normandy SR-2 once returned to Alliance hands.

The names on the Memorial Wall are as follows:

Throughout the years, the Normandy has had many guests that have resided within her, as well as a large crew that has remained mostly constant through the various missions the ship has been on. The last serving crew is as follows:

Additionally, the Normandy has had many high profile guests including Alliance Admiral Steven Hackett, Salarian Dalatrass Linron, and Turian Primarch Adrien Victus, as well as several others. Most of these visits were short and for specific purposes concerning the war or other events that happened throughout the course of three years. The reporter Diana Allers, however, was aboard the SSV Normandy SR-2 during the course of preparations for the final assault on the Reapers.

* A Full Body Scanner. This is located in the first portion of what was previously the laboratory.
** Conference Room. This room was previously the laboratory. It is found between the full body scanner and the War Room.
*** The Normandy's Drive Core (the large circular area on the map of Deck 4). This is the power of the Normandy's flight systems.
