I haven't seen either, which is kind of bad. It is one of those gaps in my period drama knowledge. But thank you for the information and the pictures - I hope to get to one or both soon.

Stacy, if you didn't read the book, pick it up, it's a novella, a true gem. Knowing you a little, I'm sure you'll love it, the movies too. :)

I hardly ever advise what to do first, but in this case you'd better read the book and then watch, particularly because of the 2007 adaptation that has a very sad ending which is ridiculous. In the book there's nowhere even a hint to be found of this occurrence. I truly wonder what possessed Andrew Davies.
