The Young Victoria... Review and pictures

Just lovely! Ok, perhaps the movie didn't have great depth, here and there there were historical inaccuracies, the score wasn't altogether to my taste, and sometimes there's too much fast forwarding particularly during the last minutes of the movie that are filled with somewhat annoying inter-titles. I'm glad you enjoyed the film, and you have summarised well how I found it. It isn't particularly deep or tension filled, but was carried well by a great cast and had a very enchanted feeling to it.

Am I mistaken, or isn't that Jonathan Firth (younger brother of Colin) playing Albert?

No, it's Rupert Friend. I believe Jonathan Firth played Albert in a TV series a couple of years ago, but I'm not sure .

I tend to avoid costume period dramas, but Young Victoria has a degree of humanization making it far more enjoyable and relatable than others of its kind.
