Wuthering Heights (TV 2009)

Since Wuthering Heights is one of the most interesting novels of the Romantic Movement I've ever read, I'm obviously very curious when a new movie adaptation sees the light. So, I was all eyes and ears when the first episode of two was on Belgian TV last Saturday (or was it Friday?) Anyway, I watched it ( Read more... )

There was an announcement of a new film adaption the other day as well, with Ed Westwick as Heathcliff.

Yes, I've seen that on IMDB. It will be directed by Peter Webber, and I've met this sympathetic director at the premiere in The Hague of his first movie (IIRC) "Girl With A Pearl Earring". He did a fine job despite certain flaws that had to do with money shortage essentially. He knows how to create a special atmosphere, so I will be on the look out for this one.

I wouldn't have such a high expectation, Renee. I just think that Wuthering Heights is too difficult a story to adopt to screen. My fav remains the one from 1939 with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon.

I fear you're right, Angela, it's perhaps too difficult, although I enjoyed the versions I mentioned in my review. I don't think I've ever seen the one with Laurence Olivier, or it must have been in my teens and forgot. I'll see if I can get it anywhere. Thanks! :)
