we drove him up to the front of the school and let him walk in by himself, staying in the car and peering like freaks through the large front windows of the school to make sure he didn't panic or get lost or possibly stepped on by the larger fourth and fifth graders. Our hopes that he would turn around and run tearfully back to us and insist that we walk him to class were, strangely, not realized as he blithely sauntered down the hall like he owned it.*chortle* This so reminds me of my boys' first day of kindergarten, or Pre-school as they call it in Oz. Kindergarten is 3-5 yr olds in NZ, in Oz it is first year of school
( ... )
Kindergarten is the first year of school here. Baby Boy was just as confident. I have no idea where he gets it, I've always been horribly shy.
I definitely love my boys to distraction, usually theirs. Poor things, I'm terribly overprotective. It makes them both crazy. I imagine they'll sigh with relief when I can turn some of that attention off them and onto the new baby. *G*
I think the first day of school is harder on the parents than on the kids.
To me, the first day of school marks the passage of my kids childhood much more than birthdays or other coming of age events. I feel a change much more at the beginning of a school year than the beginning of the calendar year.
I'm glad you think of your family as a miracle. That's how good Moms view their kids!
And you know that some mornings will be disasters, which is what makes the smooth mornings so sweet.
It's certainly harder on me than it is on either of them. And I totally agree about the start of the school year being a mark of passage much more than the start of the calendar year. Also, their birthdays are about a week after school starts so that makes it that much more of a milestone.
This morning it was back to business as usual for Baby Boy. He dragged his feet and complained and just couldn't find anything in his whole closet- which is half full of new clothes for school, I might add- that he wanted to wear. I actually would've started to worry if his cheerful morning mood had continued. I'd have dragged him down to his doctor's office for a physical. :~P
Perhaps the unnaturally smooth day is a warning sign of an apocolaypse? No, never mind, things went back to usual today. Must've just been a glitch in the system. ;~)

At least its better than them being jealous! :0)
Just wait until high school. They *never* want you to show your face there! But we do, just to embarrass them. *smirk*
Hang in there!
Hugs
