AN: I loved Stephen for what he did for Jack in the last chapter. It seemed like just the sort of thing he would do. He’d never take any credit for himself, yet he can’t bear to see Jack be robbed of his just desserts. For that matter, what would Stephen want as a reward? Considering his relationship with Jack, and his distaste for material reward

I hate to disappoint, but the next one is from Sophie's POV, concerning her marital relations with Jack, which is also something of a minor theme throughout the series...I explain my reasons for this in the author's note. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this one!

Such emotion expressed in so light a fashion between them.

(The "same cannonball" reminds me of Baldrick in the WW1 trenches in Blackadder carving his name onto a bullet because he wanted to own the "bullet with his name on" so it wouldn't get him!!).
