I wonder at your canny ability to find those little oakums and fill them out with third or even fourth characters, giving them a voice and raising them from unremarkable to valuable.
I love your Fanny, and small wonder, I adore your Jack. You convinced me that handing her a sweet is exactly what he'd do.

...If I have one tiny criticism it would be that a child of Fanny's age would never refer to Jack merely as 'Aubrey' - and nor would Babbington or indeed anyone of inferior rank or status, it would be regarded as disrepectful - it would be 'Captain Aubrey' all the time. Hope you don't mind my mentioning it...
