AN: The pillory scene, and all that must have preceded it. Ouch.

I make the presumption of giving Awkward Davis a first name near the end of this; it seemed to fit him better than anything else I could think of. I also realized only now that I’ve been misspelling his surname as ‘Davies’ this whole time. Oops; I’ll have to go back and fix that, ( Read more... )

I'm glad you like it; I don't usually like writing things that are so gloomy, but in this case I had to make an exception. So much went unsaid in this scene...

*has reached for tissues several times while reading*

Still, I do not know why you call it a bit of a downer, it is the most upbeat thing that could come from Reverse of the Medal.

Thank you for giving me 'the other side'
*sniffles quite happily*

It's really odd how well and yet how simply POB can convey the feelings of the most emotional scenes. Although I certainly felt it, I wanted to put it into a few more words.

I am so glad you gave us this look at the friends and family supporting Jack - it must have been such a relief to the officers and seamen to have something to do.

I also appreciate the drawing out of the scene of cheering, singing and Mowett's poem - wonderful! I love that Clarence himself was there, with his "Hat's off". Absolutely marvelous :D

PS Don't worry about misspelling Davis/Davies - POB switches between the spellings himself, so both are correct :-)

It was obvious (to me at least) that the supporters would not have passed up this chance for anything, even if they would prefer this precise opportunity not to have come about, for Jack's sake. It also occured to me that Clarence would likely have been in the crowd somewhere, since he has such a high opinion of Jack in the series, and he is known historically for having a very loud and carrying voice.

Oh, what a lovely behind-the-scenes look! It's no wonder Jack was moved to tears. *sniffles*

FWIW, I thought this was uplifting, not gloomy! I enjoyed getting all the different POV:s.
