Title: Trying Something New
Rating: PG-13..ish
Summary: An accidental kiss leads to a frighting question
Disclaimer: While the characters I originally used in this story are mine, the puppies aren't, blah blah blah.
It had been three days since there had been any gay jokes made. Three days since they had touched each other, even playfully, and it was making people nervous. This was Very Unusual Behavior. Behavior resulting in an evening full of conversations like the following.
"So, are we going to Hogsmeade tomorrow?"
"I have detention, remember?"
"I can't either, sorry. You and Remus can do it alone though."
"Why would we do anything? We aren't doing anything. What makes you think we're doing anything? What's with all the suspicion?"
Followed by confused and slightly worried stares from everyone else.
Thus, the Third Day began with unbearable tension. Tension that would usually be solved by pranks, but James was off trying to convince Lily he was indeed a Responsible Head Boy, so that was out. Sirius tried everything to dispel his restlessness, even going so far as to begin a potions essay due the following Monday, but nothing could hold his attention for more than a few moments. His mind would begin wandering to a Certain Someone and all concentration would vanish. Finally, he gave up. Obviously, nothing was going to get better until this was all out of the way. There was only One Thing To Do. He had to confront Remus.
Quickly, before he could loose his nerve, and or basic mobility, Sirius dashed upstairs to the dorm. His last, desperate hope was that Remus wouldn't be there, and thus he would have no way to find him. Unfortunately, this was not meant to be, for there was Remus, sitting against his headboard, apparently engrossed in a book. The sight made his breath hitch in an extremely uncomfortable way, and he stared transfixed.
"Sirius?" Remus asked, jostling Sirius out of his reverie.
"Hey, um...can I sit down?"
"Um...sure."
Before he was in any way prepared, Remus and him were sitting on Remus's bed, causing Sirius' heartbeat to speed up, and for him to make a rather unsettling discovery. He was defiantly attracted to Remus. Beyond a doubt. Football, he thought desperately, shifting to hide the evidence. Peter's stories. SNAPE!
"Did you have something you wanted to talk to me about?" Remus asked, startling Sirius from his interior monologue. Just as well. It wasn't working anyway.
"Are we, uh... Are we, you know, joking? About this? About us? ...About being gay?" Sirius asked, all in a rush.
"Huh? Er..., I mean...I don't know." Sirius took a deep breath, gathering up all his courage.
"We could, you know, um...wecouldtryitifyouwant."
Remus' face turned a color Sirius had never seen before. Sort of a plumy, grapey red. "Erhm...um...okay."
They stared at each other uncertainly for a moment before breaking down into nervous giggles. Yes giggles. Like nervous, ridiculous school girls, Sirius thought, somewhat hysterically.
"Well," Remus said, leaning forward slightly, "Here goes nothing." And pressed his lips to Sirius'. It was an odd feeling, not like kissing any of his girlfriends had been. It was more uncertain, for one thing, nothing was taken for granted. The pressure increased slightly, a tongue seeking entrance, causing a moan to burst forth, quickly swallowed. And that's when it clicked. Simultaneously, or so it seemed. This was right. THEY were right. And as they fell back in a tumble of boyish bodies, they realized that was all that really mattered.
