First Day of Chemo!

Jun 23, 2011 00:27

Well, we finally got all the testing we needed yesterday so that I could be in a Clinical trial for a new med that showed very promising results only to find that the government put the study on hold because they felt the wording in the study needed to be rewritten. So since we had already waited so long, our joined concensus was to forgo the study ( Read more... )

That sounds like a really good start. Ste got the popping feeling and the giggles, too. :) Also the chemo nurses were so upbeat and downright funny, we laughed a lot more in the treatment room than I'd ever expect!

One tip - use a good mouthwash and try sucking on a lolipop or boiled sweet during treatment, it helps head off a sore mouth.

Obviously your treatment is for a different cancer than the one Ste had, but a couple of other general tips about chemo - make sure you get plenty of rest, and yes, if you have anything at all that seems off, use that helpline. Without wanting to alarm, it saved Ste's life!

Good luck. We're rooting for you. :)

Mmmm, my mother had a Pic line on and off, sounds a bit like your Port, except it ran to her heart.

Benedryl makes me so goofy too! hehehehehe

*nods* Lots of information is always good, but it's kind of hard not to fret and dwell when there are so many different possible symptoms to keep track of. I hope the treatment continues to be relatively comfortable and without too many icky side effects.

I too have been LOVING Game of Thrones. Isn't the casting wonderful? I was worried they'd really botch things, but the actors have brought all the characters wonderfully to life. (The guy who plays Tyrion is my personal favorite.) I read all the books during a rough patch last summer...they're so deep and engrossing I found they made a wonderful distraction. And book 5 comes out next month, yay!

*hugs* Get all the rest that you can and be good to yourself whenever you can, yeah?

Sounds like you have a terrific team of doctors and nurses behind you to say nothing of your awesome family.
*hugs*
I'm glad to hear that day one went well. Happy reading!

Hopefully things will go well with the chemo! Large doses of Benadryl makes me sleepy and loopy - I tend to see things before I pass out!
