Summary: Prequel to Football Hero-Not! Did you ever wonder exactly how John got Rodney to play football?

Dark clouds spun outside the window. The occasional lightning strike zigzagged across the sky, soon followed by the low resonance of thunder; leftovers from a thunderstorm in its dying throes.

McKay stood in front of the window, glaring at the rain as if it was the cause for his current problem. The last week-and-a-half of constant torrential downpours had everyone itching to outside and stretch their legs. News that the storm front was finally moving away had spread like wildfire and he knew it was only a matter of time before the object of his current annoyance would show up.
The door to his quarters chimed in warning as the doors swished open. There he was, right on cue. A flash of lightning lit up the room revealing his companion.

“Whatcha doin’?” John asked, walking up behind him.

His lover sounded a little too chipper considering what he’d been doing, or rather what he hadn’t been doing, for the last week.

“Rodney?” John tried again.

He refused to turn around and or even acknowledge John.

“Come on, you’re not still mad are you?”

Rodney gave a disbelieving snort.

“Oh come on, it’ll be fun.”

He felt John wrap his long arms around his torso and rest his stubbled chin on his shoulder.

“Fun!” Rodney sputtered, “I don’t see how football can be fun!”

“It will be.”

Rodney couldn’t help but scoff at that.

“Hey, you agreed.” John pointed out.

“I didn’t have a choice!”

“Ah, are you still mad about that?”

“Of course I’m still mad! You refused to have sex, then ran around flaunting yourself every chance you got. Your teasing was driving me nuts!”

“I’m glad it worked so well.” John teased.

Rodney was just itching to wipe that self-satisfied smirk off of John’s face.

“I’m a scientist, not a human battering ram.”

“Yes, and a very horny scientist at that,” John said, his voice dropping suggestively.

Rodney couldn’t deny that fact. A week without sex had him humming with the need and desire. Yet, John still refused to do anything until Rodney kept up his side of the bargain. He was sure he was going through withdrawal.

“Besides it’s good to try new things,” John continued.

“Yeah, until you end up with a broken neck!”

Rodney didn’t know why they were having this conversation. John had already won a long time ago and he knew it. He was probably just wallowing in the fact he’d gotten the man to play football, one of the most physical sports out there, with him.

“No one’s going to break anything,” John promised.

“Oh, and your assurances always end so nicely.”

Then a sudden thought occurred to him. Rodney stepped out of John’s embrace to pin him with a fearful look.

“Oh god, Ronon isn’t playing with us is he?!”

A flash of lighting and a rumble of thunder reflected his horror.

“Don’t worry, he won’t hurt you… Well on purpose anyway.”

“Oh, that’s very reassuring!” Rodney complained.

“I’ll make it worth your while.”

“You’d better!”

Rodney sighed after a minute, irritation ebbing away. He’d resigned to the fact he’d die sooner or later, and it looked like it would be sooner rather than later.

“Too bad it’s raining. I can stave off imminent doom another hour or so,” Rodney said.

“All that fresh air and sunshine will do you good.”

“You mean I’ll get sunburned or die of some kind of airborne allergen.”

“Stop whining. You’ll have fun,” John soothed.

Rodney huffed a muttered “Whatever”, making sure his lover knew he wasn’t doing this of his own free will.

He could practically hear John roll his eyes.

“Come on, let’s go eat. I don’t want to hear you complaining about being hungry on top of everything else.”

“Hey!” Rodney protested.

John just ignored his indignant reply and tugged him out the door and down the hall. As they walked further and further away, the fading rumbles of thunder were the only noises that broke the silence.
