Oh, this is excellent! Exactly what happened in the story, it just wasn't said. I like to think the TARDIS realized that Kaylee already belonged to Serenity, and so she let her go.

True, true. But a telepathic space and time ship deserves a Doctor's Companion sometime who also understands *her* (Which is honestly something I hadn't thought about until I read this fic and its parent fic)
