Ianto was a mouse. Curled small and quiet, eyes shut, hiding in the darkness. His breath stuttered at a sudden wetness on his hand and he gritted his teeth lest he make some noise. Mice don’t make noise, at least not the more sensible ones. Slowly he opened his eyes to stare dully at the dark smudge. He hadn’t even realised he was bleeding again.
The familiar step in the corridor made him jerk up in relief, every muscle screaming at the movement. Jack, thank God.
The memory, when it returned, hurt more than any cuts or bruises ever could.
