I really liked that -- it's an examination of the dark side of the metaphor from the original. Very River-ish.

And this:

She latches onto her name: names are symbols, and a River is a symbol, but of what she doesn't know. What substance there is under the surface, she can't define, can't quantify. Symbols and words are sly that way.
