Oh, this is delightful! I love the idea of River as a conduit even when she is more...well, normal and less, well...morbid and creepifying.

The transposition into this time frame with a different kind of threatened loss works wonderfully. The expansion and peek into how they might be now turned the original into a real and very satisfying story.

It was actually really tough for me to pick a piece of yours to remix at first--I was initially going to do Chinese Cooking, then I changed my mind, um, two days before the deadline? Maybe three? I really enjoy your writing style and I hadn't read any of your fic before. I love it when challenges broaden my horizons (and throw in a femslash bonus). =)
