Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow. I love the way this spirals, tighter and tigher, forward in time, inwards to the heart of desperation.

Frannie worrying about the animals was perfect. Dief's response to Ray. Ray, trying so hard not to think about how good Fraser smells.

He will protect Ray - from criminals, from public hysteria, from the arrayed forces of the United States government, from friends turned foe. And he will also protect Ray from despair, the loss of hope, from any rash action.
God, yes.

This is outstanding, I am so excited!

This was as compelling and chilling as the original story, and I didn't think that could be done. I really liked all the different POVs, Frannie's especially. And Dief! I loved Dief's POV, the first one to realize there was Something Very Wrong, and twitching his ears frantically at Fraser to let him know. And Fraser at the end, grimly holding onto hope with both hands--especially when nobody else does. That was *very* Fraser. Kudos!

Poor Fraser, things are very rough for him in both fics. He'll need a lot of hugging. :(

Thanks for letting me know you liked it! :)

Wow, I really liked this! It's like you zoom in closer and closer to the events in the original, but you never actually resolve it. And I like Ray's POV, the way you show how he's affected.

You build the tension and the fear nicely in this.
