Title: Folding By The Numbers (A Thousand Paper Cranes Remix) Author: topaz_eyesSummary: It hadn't been until he started his neuro residency that he began to appreciate the similarities between protein folding and paper folding

Hi there. I cannot tell you how glad--and relieved--I am that you liked your remix. :-) I wish there was more duckling!fic, more Foreteen fic--they're sadly almost ignored in fandom, yet the possibilities are endless.
Your premise was brilliant because it made perfect sense; as much as Foreman insists he's not affected by personal issues in his decision-making, you know he is. TPTB didn't go into the reasons why Foreman would become involved with Remy in the show--I was so glad you did. While writing I wondered if, unconsciously, he knew all along about the connection between Remy and his mother; it took his analytical pondering about origami and proteins to make it hit home. Protein folding is an amazing subject. I used to work with proteins all the time--it's amazing how delicate the process really is, to get a 3-D functional protein from what is really a 1-D sequence. If conditions aren't perfect, it just doesn't work. In the lab it's only frustrating; in the cell it's deadly.
queenzulu's beta is what really made this remix work

I love how folding and unfolding flow all the way through the story and reveal both Thirteen and Cameron, and the comparison between origami and protein folding. What a fantastic connection! And of course the parallel between Thirteen and Foreman's mother and how that informed his decision about the clinical trial. You've enriched canon beautifully.
