*loves and loves* As I do anything about Neville, but this? Is so essentially him, and sweet, and I love Anne. We should all have imaginary friends who are that kind.
What a lovely take on the original! The structure is really cool, too. My heart hurt a little at the fact that Anne and her brothers were dead-but she got to come back, and to help another little boy grow up. Really nice work.
So touching! With the context of the other story, this is all the more bittersweet. I love Neville's small steps towards confidence and magic in this, and I love that Antonia was real and was able to help such a lonely little boy.
SQUEEEEE! Oh dear Remixer, I am in awe! I can't believe how GOOD this is!
You've stripped it of the cheese that was so prevalent in the original and gave it a little bit of moodiness and tension--I couldn't shake the feeling that something was "off" about the whole situation, and when I found out it was such a shock! And you've managed to change all of the above without losing the sweetness of Neville's first mentor, and the wonder of his growth. AND oh, the last section is gorgeous! I loved the tone of finality that it carried, almost like...heh, forgive me, but it was almost like closing the book after the last chapter.
The whole thing, in fact, read like a bedtime story. It had the tone of a storybook narrator talking to a young child, a moral, and even a kind of fairy godmother! Haha, I don't know if that made sense to you, but it was something I really enjoyed thinking about, and something that is so perfect for wee!Neville.
I'm really happy that you liked my remix :) your story was utterly charming (not at all cheesy!!! don't say that!) so it was challenging tackling it and trying to give it its due.
Thank you for your great feedback as well, I'm glad you liked the storybook narrator mood and the conclusions I add ♥
