Oh, wow, this is fantastic. I love every word of it: I love the narrative voice, I love the things Ray says, I love his energy and his frustration and his longing and -- just every damn thing about this story, period. YAY.

adventures can be dirty or clean. The dirty ones drag you down, after the adrenaline wears off, kind of leave a stain on your soul, if you know what I mean. That is a really great line! I liked the way that you matched each of the original story's sections, and that #3 was so short, because Ray really didn't want to go into it. I never would have imainged Ray cleaning under stress, but the way you wrote him working his way through that letter was uttery convincing.

(I've been watching a lot of CKR films recently, and he's always cast as the sort of person who destroys things under stress... which, hey, would work for Ray as well, but there's a certain ruthless desttuctiveness to cleaning as well *covers your eyes so you don't see the chaos *I* work in*)
