So, for general knowledge: 1. Just like any of our other orifices - as long as you keep it clean, a little saliva won't hurt.
2. Not any worse than popping a zit. Leaves you a little open to getting an infection, and makes it look worse than it did before. Avoid the popping, tempting though it may be.
3. No! We don't do episiotomies on everybody! We only do one if it looks like baby's head is gonna blow through and leave a path of destruction. Better to have nice clean edges to put back together - it'll make for a better repair and fewer consequences down the road.
