So, in his hands was a game of snakes and ladders. It was a start, at least.
He walked into the house with the intention of putting it somewhere for him to remember to offer it up on another rainy day. Of course, the Rose---the older, not-quite-as-old-as-his-Rose Rose.
"Hello," he said, warily, noting her contemplative expression.

Rose looked up immediately, because right now he was one of the few people she didn't mind seeing. Never mind how odd it felt to be that way, all things considered, that wasn't really relevant. Point was that he was here, and what was that in his hands? Snakes and Ladders?
"What's brought you in here?" she asked. Her voice wasn't abrasive.
