The Doctor is lingering, outside of a nice little Bed and Breakfast that he happened to save from aliens once. About a decade ago, as it happens, but the owners were still grateful enough to put him up for a bit. Besides, he helps prepare far more food than he eats

"Your relationships, hmm?"

Sarah Jane Smith always has been good at eavesdropping. Her hair is tied back, and given the shorts and tank top, it's rather clear she's been out on a run. She smiles and gives a small wave, taking a couple steps closer.

"And just relationships are these?"

The Doctor usually finds that a commendable trait in a companion; at the moment he's cursing himself for it, just a bit.

But he smiles still, if a tad sheepishly.

"Very important ones I'm dreadfully afraid of ruining."

She nods and the smile falters for a moment. Would it be presumptuous to think that he is talking about her? Their last meeting didn't end so well, after all.

Sarah tilts her head, considering her words for a moment before settling on an inquisitive, "Oh?"

Suddenly, the Doctor wishes for a simple hat to twist in his hands, rather than the headdress tossed onto a bed in his room.

"Hmm. You see it's always difficult, to confront something that remains - painful. To try to explain it."
