She had been exploring sometime after running into the Doctor (tenth incarnation who seemed to know nothing of before), trying to see what was still about after ninety-nine percent of the universe had disappeared.
What Sarah hadn't expected to see - or more like hear - was a very wary voice behind her. She gasped, and turned around slowly. "Hullo?"
His expression froze, and he could only stare at her for a moment, shock and concern and utter delight warring in the light of his eyes, the set of his mouth.
It's the light in his eyes that's familiar. It'll always be that light in his eyes that makes her recognise him. But why he's so surprised to see her, even given everything, there's just something off she can't quite put her finger on.
Still, she smiles brightly and launches him in her arms. She's gotten over her impulsive kissing from the other night (she thinks, she hopes), but that certainly doesn't stop her from hugging him tightly.
"Not really an assassination attempt. No one around to assassinate." Jackie smiles a bit and shakes his head. The regeneration has left him a bit wobbly in the brain.
"An assassination attempt? What on Earth are you talking about, Doctor? Assuming we are on Earth." It certainly looked like it.
"Come to think of it what are you doing here. I thought you only crossed paths with your other selves in a true emergency." The last time she had seen this incarnation was during that business in the Death Zone. In fact it was the only time she had met this incarnation.
"And what's with the robes? Going to a fancy dress ball, or something?"
Sarah stared back. From what she knew of the Doctor, (s)he hated Gallifreyan robes. Maybe he had been wearing them on Gallifrey, but why wouldn't he have changed en route?

In the end, he only whispers.
"Sarah Jane?"

Yes, of course this could be a trap. Yes, this might not be Sarah at all. Yes, they could both be in horrible danger.
He was going to have this moment.
"Sarah!"

"Well, that's something, I suppose. They're very tiresome."

"Of course," and he scratches his chin idly, "That doesn't mean much right now, I don't think."

He smiles wryly.
"So I've seen. It's almost a relief, I've rather missed saving the universe."

He can't help but stare, again. This is odd, very odd. He certainly wouldn't complain, mind, but it was troubling all the same.
"From what I know I think this is an emergency."
Reply
"I was afraid of that. What can I do to help?"

"I'm not certain, not yet. All I know, I heard from...ah, you, actually."
