"Oh come on," the Doctor tilted his head to the side and smirked, "As if you're not even the slightest bit curious."
He had the oddest sensation that the Rani shouldn't have been alive, but he couldn't imagine for the life of him why. Something his other self had said...
"I'm not," she told him flatly. "It's a waste of time, one we shouldn't even consider with the crisis at hand. I see nothing of interest in sharing an evening with you to no obvious result."
The Doctor was not even capable of being amused in the slightest that the Rani's TARDIS had taken on the police box form, and as such, no amusement was visible on her face.
"Oh, you know. Saw a nice-looking couple, thought I'd say hello." Beat. "Everything all right with your TARDIS?" She hadn't exactly had a chance to see for herself, though she would've liked to.
She nodded, running her hand along the side thoughtfully. Her space traveler, her laboratory.
The only real home she had left.
"I spent the last week or so cleaning up the mess left by those cretinous chiroptera," she answered with a sneer. "But the majority of my work has been unharmed by my absence."

He hated dealing with the woman. Hated even more having to deal with her and go to a place that he didn't really want to.

He pulled out the invitation and held it up.
"You got one of these too, I assume?"

"I had indeed," she admitted, looking at the invitation he held out. Then one eyebrow raised.
"You don't honestly intend to indulge this ridiculousness, do you?"
