Picking up the communicator, the Doctor stared at it moodily. Turning it over time and again in his hands, he wasn't sure this was what he wanted to do. He'd just bloody well gotten Rose off to greener pastures, why would he want to saddle himself with playing well with others so soon

Lucy was surprised at the voice that came over her communicator, which she had mostly been ignoring for some time. Even though the accent was obviously a put-on, she still recognized who it belonged to.

"Is that so, Doctor?" she replied after pressing the 'talk' button. "Tracked us down, have you?"

"Oh well you know how it is. Eventually you have to pick up the pretty new shiny and go... Huh what? And who might this be?"

And that was when she surmised that this must be yet another version of the Doctor she knew. How annoying.

"Lucy Saxon," she replied politely.

"Saxon, huh? Never heard of you. Oh well, doesn't matter. New friends, new horizons and all that."

The Doctor eyed her communicator for a minute, then picked it up to play along. "Roger. This is Time Traffic Control. You are cleared for a landing. Sending galactic coordinates from galactic centre. Mind the Rifts. Do you have any of those packets of peanuts?"
Yes, she even did the fake static.

That got a chuckle. "Pretzels... crackers with peanut butter... Nope no peanuts. Someone might be allergic and we can't hae them all wheezing and gasping and keeling over, now can we?"

"Oh, all right," she said with a slight huff. "But I don't see why you can't keep peanuts if you can keep the little crackers with peanut butter. What if your friendly Tango-Tango-Charlie operator prefers the little packets of peanuts? How else are you meant to bribe your way into permission to land?"
...Not, of course, that the Doctor would ever consider giving or taking bribes.

"Damn fine question that. And just who would I be bribing? Might narrow the list down. I think I've got... Well, a TARDIS so I can get just about anything."

Jackie, who had been snoozing in his TARDIS, jerked awake at the familiar voice. Confused for a moment, he picked up the communicator and said, "Dad?"

The Doctor blinked, staring at the communicator.

"Uhmm, Sorry,' he intoned, adopting a very southern accent. "I didn't touch no woman. I wasn't there. Ya can't prove a thing."

Jackie laughed, still half asleep, "Course you didn't."
