So Black History Assemblies are interesting. In fact, all school-wide assemblies that are really just melodramatic PSAs are interesting to me. Why, you might ask? Well, things like these no longer fulfill their purposes. Which also makes me wonder if they EVER fulfilled their purposes, and what their purposes were to begin with? School ( Read more... )

Hmm...that's interesting...I agree that there is that hierarchy, or caste as you call it. But, is it so much a caste? I mean, can people move up in it within the school year? Apparently I digress, as well.
I think that *something* needs to be done. More awareness? Maybe not. I mean, people are aware of the inequalities, but not much is being done about it. Then again, when I was in high school, we mentioned MLK day, and every other part of the Civil Rights movement was brushed over. I digress again. Awareness is part of it, because you still get those people who even deny certain events happen (like the holocaust) but I think maybe we need to approach it differently. Those are just my two cents, tho.

I actually found this one interesting as much of a surprise as it may be.

Also, interestingly I was a member of the black panthers back in the 70s.
