it occurs to me that I have not decided which is the greater loss - the lack of someone dear with whom to share moments of excitement, joy and elation or the absence of a trusted confidant to commiserate with over frustration, disappointment and despair.

Awwww,thanks Jude. It's not quite as bad as it sounds. I have, as of late, cultivated a pretty good group of friends with whom I can share most of life's highs and lows, but sometimes there are things that can only be shared with someone who knows your heart. For a brief time, I thought I had found that special someone, someone who would be a dear, close friend for life, but it proved to be an illusion, and though I've grown quite comfortable keeping my own counsel once again, every so often I grow a little wistful for what I thought I had.
